New generator enhances capabilities of Intelligent Traffic System (ITS)

Horner & Shifrin provided construction documents for replacement of a 150KW generator and 50KVA Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) with a new 500 KW generator and 300KVA UPS. The primary reason for this additional UPS and Generator capacity was to provide power conditioning, back-up power protection, and additional distribution capabilities to support the new IDOT Intelligent Traffic System and additional equipment required for their new LAN system.

The Standby Power installation included the new generator with pad and modifications to the existing fuel system as well as replacement of an existing Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS). The Uninterruptible Power System consists of a three phase, on-line, solid state inverter, rectifier, internal battery and charger, as well as a continuous duty static switch, internal maintenance bypass switch, and synchronizing circuitry.

A new 800 amp UPS panel was provided to expand the existing building's UPS output distribution capabilities. The existing output distribution panel was sub-fed from the new.
