Design strengthened agency's disaster recovery plan

New 1500KW generator improved building's power backup system

Horner & Shifrin evaluated the existing Blue Cross Blue Shield critical power system which consisted of two large UPS (uninterruptible power source) systems with extensive, but dated, battery-backed power.

This evaluation was coordinated with managment's concern regarding disaster recovery. As a result of this coordination, the owner's project team, with Horner & Shifrin's assistance, recommended that the UPS loads be combined to an existing 450KW UPS, the batteries for this system be replaced and reduced and a new 1500KW generator be provided.

In conjunction with expanding the critical power system, several areas of existing work space were hardened with generator-backed power and environmental controls for critical operations. Horner & Shifrin provided complete construction documentation for this project.
