Route 21 Improvements |
This project is part of an $87 million effor to relocate
Route 21 in Jefferson County Horner & Shifrin, Inc., is designing improvements to a 3.5-mile section of Route 21 in Jefferson County for the Missouri Department of Transportation. This project is part of an $87 million effort to relocate and improve 13 miles of Route 21 from a narrow, twisting two-lane roadway to a four-lane, limited access highway. The existing roadway has been the site of numerous accidents. Horner & Shifrin has provided final design plans, specifications, right-of-way plans, and construction cost estimate for improvements to the relocated Route 21 from Lake Lorriane to Hayden Road. The design includes grading, drainage and paving of the highway and associated roadways, retaining walls, bridges and interchanges, such as : Glade Chapel Road and bridge, Hayden Road and the twin bridges carrying the new Route 21 over Hayden Road. Plans also include improvements to the southern ramps at the interchange with existing Route 21 and the northern ramps at the Hayden Road interchange. Under Program Manager HNTB, the Route 21 project has been divided
into four segments. The Program Manager prepared the preliminary design
and strip map for the project and is coordinating final design of each
of the segments with different consultant teams. Horner & Shifrin
successfully completed contract negotiations in just eight weeks, meeting
both Program Manager and MoDOT criteria. InterXchange software was
being used to coordinate schedules and to post drawings and information
during the design process. |
