PureLine™ Water Disinfection System at Greenville, IL,
Is First of its Kind in Illinois

March 11, 2008

Horner & Shifrin designed a water disinfection system for the treatment facility at Greenville that is the first of its kind to be used for potable water treatment in the State of Illinois.

The City of Greenville was experiencing taste and odor problems and was exceeding the maximum contaminant level for trihalomethanes in their drinking water. After investigating various treatment alternatives to solve these problems, Horner & Shifrin recommended cutting-edge technology that feeds a 99.5%-pure chlorine dioxide solution for initial disinfection and taste and odor control. “We recommended the PureLineTM disinfection system because it is the most cost effective for the City,” said Horner & Shifrin Project Manager Dennis Campbell. “Using chlorine dioxide at the front end of the water treatment process eliminates the need for three additional chemicals that would otherwise be needed for disinfection and for taste and odor control.”
