New Bridge over the Aux Vases River
Will Increase Motorists’ Safety

June 4, 2009

Horner & Shifrin, Inc., is performing a hydraulic analysis, a scour study, and preliminary and final bridge design for the Route B Bridge Replacement over the Aux Vases River in Ste. Genevieve County for the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Increased popularity in the region’s wineries has resulted in additional traffic on Route B that includes numerous bus groups. The new two-lane bridge will significantly improve safety for motorists throughout the corridor.

This fast-track project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The new bridge will replace the existing 230-foot-long, one-lane truss bridge with a two-lane, girder-type bridge with concrete barriers.

“This project’s success hinges mostly on two critical issues – quickly developing the hydraulic report that will dictate the required grade and span arrangement, and effective communication and coordination with the MoDOT District 10 personnel who will be providing the adjacent roadway design,” said Horner & Shifrin Project Manager Michael Banashek. “Because this project is funded by ARRA, schedule adherence, in both design and construction, will be imperative.”
