Geomatics Group expands capabilities with the purchase of DJI Matrice 300 RTK

Horner & Shifrin’s Geomatics group has added the Matrice 300 RTK to our aerial fleet.

H&S recently added DJI’s Matrice 300 RTK drone to our aerial fleet, joining our DJI Phantom, SenseFly eBee fixed wing, and Intel Falcon 8 Octocopter. This new UAS platform carries multiple payload sensors, including the 35mm DJI P1 camera, used for high-resolution photogrammetry, the DJI L1 for aerial LiDAR surveying, the H20T for zoom, thermal, and tracking capabilities, along with additional payload sensors, such as a chemical sensor for monitoring toxic gases in dangerous and/or inaccessible locations.

Aerial LiDAR surveying has increased Horner & Shifrin’s abilities to obtain survey data in heavily vegetated areas and unsafe terrain conditions where traditional surveying methods pose challenges and safety factors for our surveyors.

This video illustrates how high-resolution photogrammetry and LiDAR can be obtained using this type of equipment and processed to create highly detailed 3D models and imagery used for site monitoring, measurements and quantities, base map generation, and even digital surveys.

The P1 Photogrammetry sensor was used at a local Sewer District to monitor new construction at a treatment plant site and at our Bentonville, Arkansas office ribbon-cutting ceremony. The L1 aerial LiDAR sensor was used for a post-construction survey of the MoDOT Route C bridge replacement project for Kolb Grading and collection of Chain of Rocks Canal bridge and nearby powerlines.
