Overview
BJC HealthCare needed to replace a 40-year-old air handler keeping 11 active operating rooms running at Memorial Hospital Belleville.
One constraint shaped everything: those operating rooms couldn’t go offline.
We installed a custom replacement unit alongside the existing air handler and phased the cutover across four construction stages, sequenced around active surgical schedules, maintaining full operation throughout. The new unit uses fan wall technology, a dedicated glycol chiller, and supply air temperature reset to hit the precise temperature and humidity conditions each OR requires, while reducing energy use over time. We also consolidated final filtration from each individual room to a single access point at the unit, cutting long-term maintenance time and cost for the facilities team.
Eleven operating rooms. No downtime.
We’ve worked on this campus for two decades, inheriting a client relationship that goes back to 1962. We know the details in environments like this have no room for error.
