Lonedell Road Bridge Over East Rock Creek

Jefferson County, Missouri

The unusual construction staging allowed the County to save on the cost of a traditional bypass.

Overview

Horner & Shifrin designed the realignment of Lonedell Road and a 30-ft-span culvert constructed from arched aluminum plates and ribs founded on concrete stub walls and spread footings. Right-of-way constraints required the arch to be cut on a skew and the need for heavily reinforced concrete headwalls. The design included straightening of existing horizontal curves, flattening of vertical curves, drainage improvements along roadway and traffic control plans. Maintenance of traffic was managed by staged construction. The unusual construction staging allowed the County to save on the cost of a traditional bypass.
