Overview
The Lower Meramec Lift Station was designed to convey wastewater from a deep tunnel interceptor up to a new treatment facility at the confluence of the Meramec and Mississippi Rivers. A circular lift station configuration with a carefully optimized diameter was constructed to maintain operability and minimize construction cost of the nearly 225-foot deep structure. An electric substation was also constructed nearby to feed power to the pumps. A separate screen structure was designed upstream to prevent pump damage from potentially destructive debris. A biofilter system was added to treat odorous airflow and prevent disruptive smells emanating to nearby residential areas.
