Overview
Horner & Shifrin provided information to assist the city in obtaining an Economic Development Program (EDP) Grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation to improve North Green Mount Road prior to the opening of the new St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Phase I services provided for this project included a complete survey, conceptual alignment and profile development, safety evaluation, location drainage study, and intersection design studies (at Pierce Blvd, Cambridge Blvd, and US Hwy 50).
Phase II services consisted of final plan development, pavement design, traffic signal design, specifications, plats & legal descriptions for right-of-way acquisition, utility coordination and time & cost estimates were also led by Horner & Shifrin. H&S also led Phase III construction inspection.
The typical section for North Green Mount Road included pavement widening for two new lanes with a raised, boulevard-type median, shared-use path, ADA compliant sidewalk ramps, new curb and gutter, storm sewers, culvert extensions, dual left turn lanes and traffic signals at Cambridge Blvd, and traffic signal modification at Pierce Blvd and US Hwy 50.
