This project, the first of its kind in the United States, is expected to reduce fatal and serious injuries on highways through Franklin & St. Charles Counties in Missouri.

Overview

Horner & Shifrin served as the lead engineer for the NB West Team on MoDOT’s $24 million Safety Improvement Design-Build Project. The first of its kind, this project provided multiple improvements to various routes in the St. Louis District.

MoDOT identified 31 high-risk locations in Franklin & St. Charles Counties and marked them for potential improvements. The project design team analyzed safety research reports in order to select appropriate countermeasures specific to each area. These safety countermeasures were constructed across all 31 high-risk locations. These improvements provided durable, cost-effective solutions with significant service life, with phased construction causing minimal impact to vehicular and pedestrian traffic during construction.
