Scott Avenue (Grand) Transit Plaza Design

Bi-State Development (Metro)

Improved accessibility and pedestrian lighting compliment the design of the reconstructed Grand Viaduct

Overview

As part of the Grand Boulevard Viaduct reconstruction, Horner & Shifrin was hired to provide design for Metro’s Grand Transit Plaza. The orientation of the existing station only allowed for access directly from Grand Boulevard level. The new design extended the length of the platform to include a new ADA compliant switch-back ramp, which is accessible directly from Scott Avenue. Elevators and stairs from Grand Boulevard open on a patterned concrete plaza north of Scott Avenue, with sculptural seating and pedestrian lighting, all tucked away beneath the Grand Viaduct.
