Tanglewood Bridge Replacement

Tanglewood Subdivision

H&S completed all phases of bridge replacement for a private subdivision in Ladue, Missouri.

Overview

Horner & Shifrin provided bridge design services for the superstructure replacement of the Wenlou Drive Bridge in Saint Louis. The bridge is approximately 28 feet long and 30 feet wide and this project consisted of replacing the existing steel beam superstructure with precast prestressed spread box beams.  Precast panels, a concrete deck and a decorative concrete railing and pedestrian fence were also featured.  The 100 year old retaining wall style abutments and wingwalls were repaired and preserved.

H&S surveyors surveyors obtained deed and plat records of adjacent right-of-way of existing roadway and performed utility research for maps and Missouri One Call for field markings. Topographic survey was done within the existing right-of-way on both sides of existing bridge including location of property corners to establish said right-of-way. Topographic survey included pavement, walks, improvements, existing bridge supports, flow line of creek, and utilities within the corridor. All information was drafted in Micro-Station format.

Additionally, H&S provided construction administration services, performing on-site inspections, testing oversight, sounding, marking out repairs on wing walls/end bents, changes orders, and contractor pay application reviews. Through calibration with our in house design staff and field inspections, H&S was able to determine the best repairs that ended up with a savings for the client. H&S inspectors oversaw concrete testing and placement to prevented improper material placement as well as oversaw repairs of contractor deficiencies in construction of the bridge. Construction services worked with the client, contractor, and design to both minimize repair costs and deliver a quality product.
