Horner & Shifrin Accepts Buckle Up Phone Down Challenge
Horner & Shifrin is the latest partner of the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety’s “Buckle Up, Phone Down” day on October 20, 2017.
The goal of this challenge is to encourage people to fasten their seatbelt and stay off of their phone every time they drive. Statistics show that these two acts of safety could have an impact on both traffic accidents and highway fatalities. In 2016, 63 percent of vehicle fatalities in Missouri were due to unbuckled drivers and/or passengers. Missouri has a “no texting” law for drivers under 21 years old, but MoDOT wants to challenge all drivers to honor that ban, no matter their age. When a driver is texting while driving, they are 23 times more likely to be involved in a life-threatening incident than when they are focused on driving alone.
“Horner & Shifrin is proud to partner with MoDOT in the ‘Buckle Up, Phone Down challenge,” said Steve Donahue, PE, President at Horner & Shifrin. “While we work each day to improve the safety of Missouri roads through our innovative designs, as users we also recognize our role in keeping the roads safe by buckling up every time and not talking or texting on cell phones unless it is hands free.”
