Reflecting on our Summer 2024 Intern Program
The H&S 2024 Summer Internship Program was our largest yet, boasting a diverse group of students:
- Eight individuals
- Six colleges and universities
- Three states
- Six office locations
- Five H&S business units
Three of the eight interns from this year’s program will be staying on with H&S part-time!
As part of this year’s program, we asked staff who worked closely with our engineers to tell us about their experience.
Adelyse Gonzales spent the summer in Horner & Shifrin’s Chicago office working on the Transportation team. Adelyse is a student at the University of Illinois Chicago, Class of 2026, working toward her BS in Civil Engineering
Adelyse’s supervisor Brian Pawula was glowing in his review of her performance.
“Adelyse’s summer internship has been packed with training, project work, business development field recon, and participation in quality audits with subconsultants, internally, and with a client. You’re not going to see quality audits on many intern resumes! All the while, she excelled in a summer class two nights a week. She has consistently impressed everyone, from the Chicago office to the southern H&S offices. While we’ll be sad to see her leave at the end of the summer. We wish her all the best and hope this isn’t the last time we see her!”
Dana Creswell, who is also working toward a BS in Civil Engineering as part of the Missouri S&T Class of 2026, spent the summer as Horner & Shifrin’s rotating intern. Rotating interns at H&S gain unique perspective on the interplay between disciplines, spending time with several business units in the hope that it will help them to solidify their engineering track of choice.
Joe Unterreiner had only great things to say about Dana’s time in the Civil/Site group.
“Dana displayed outstanding adaptability and eagerness to learn. Working with her was a pleasure and I am confident she will be a valuable asset to any team in the future.”
